History

At the age of 23, Brooke gave birth to her son Lucas. She learned of midwives during her pregnancy, but her partner was uncomfortable with out-of-hospital birth. Brooke compromised and chose to experience a traditional hospital birth without a midwife. Although her experience was not traumatic, it was far from empowering, and not what she had envisioned or desired. About 2 months after her birth, she was blessed to speak with a midwife who shared the gift of supporting women through their pregnancies and the magic of welcoming new life onto Earth. Brooke was immediately inspired into her life's work.

In 1995, Brooke lived in Maryland. At the time, the only path to becoming a legally practicing midwife in Maryland was to become a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM). On this path to midwifery you obtain your nursing degree and RN license and then go onto graduate school to become a Master's prepared CNM. Brooke had never considered a career in the healthcare field, but was clear on her goal to become a midwife, and so off to nursing school it was. In 1999, Brooke graduated, first in her class, with her Associates in Nursing from the College of Southern Maryland. Around this time Brooke became a single mom and so she took many years, one class a semester, to completed her Bachelor's in Nursing from Stevenson University in 2008. From 1999 - 2011, Brooke worked as a Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby Nurse at Calvert Memorial Hospital and MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Maryland.

At the time that Brooke completed her Bachelor's degree, she was experiencing much frustration with the lack of informed consent she witnessed during the birthing process. She knew she was capable of having greater impact on women's pregnancies and birth experiences as a midwife than as a nurse. She decided to enter graduate school full time, still as a single mom, despite the significant sacrifice her teenage son was required to make. In 2011, with his support and the support of many friends and family, Brooke graduated from a joint program between Johns Hopkins University and Shenandoah University with her Master's in Nursing and a post-master's certificate in Nurse-Midwifery. In 2011, Brooke began a midwife practice within a private physician practice at Southern Maryland Women's Healthcare. The practice grew quickly, adding 2 more midwives, and the midwife practice attending 25-30 births per month. In 2017, Brooke felt inspired to move to the Southwest where she was privileged to serve on the great Navajo Nation as the Midwife Supervisor in Chinle, AZ. From 2011-2022, Brooke has been blessed to attend over 1000 births.

As a midwife, Brooke perceived herself as a healer, understanding the birther's experience as physical, emotional, and spiritual, where a child and family are born. It is a transformative process. For years, Brooke incorporated alternative healing modalities she had gained into her work, but in 2020 as COVID hit, she followed the pull to work more deeply with others on an energetic and spiritual level. From 2020-2022, Brooke completed Emotion Code Certification through Discover Healing and the four-level Multidimensional Consciousness & Embodiment Training with Advanced Soul Recovery. In the latter training, each healer is supported to develop their personal soul expression to provide healing for themselves and on behalf of others. Through this experience, Brooke understood her natural inclination for shamanic healing and her ability to assist others in all times of great transition, not just birth.

As of September 2022, Brooke launched her business 'Journey with Brooke' and has transitioned to Energy Healing as her primary vocation. She has moved to the Pacific Northwest, and after a year and a half of living #Vanlife, she has settled down in Shoreline, WA. She works part-time as a Certified Nurse-Midwife while seeing clients for Energy Healing in Edmonds and Enumclaw, WA, or virtually. Brooke is thrilled to expand her healing services and be your 'Midwife to the Soul' during your journey of awakening and remembering.
